About the Competition:
This is the third annual event, having previously been called the "Canadian Woodturning Championships". The competition endeavors that fellow woodturners will learn from each other's examples and hopefully show pave the way for newcomers to try this rewarding hobby.. We also hope to expose the craft of woodturning to an expanded audience and to educate this audience on its artistic virtues. Along the way, many turners and collectors will find a mutually rewarding partnership. The competition is juried by a very competent panel of competent turners; knowledgeable artisans in pottery/sculpting/woodworking; art dealers/critics. The event occurs during the BC Woodshow in Cloverdale (near Vancouver B.C.).
The competition is organized into three levels so that all turners, of any caliber, are able to participate. The previous competitions have certainly featured a well-rounded field of competitors: from complete novice, right up to house-hold names (for us turners, anyway). Entries are open to woodturners worldwide. Total prizes (cash and merchandize) are estimated at $3000, with the top (juried prize) being $750. The ever popular, "People's Choice Award" gets the enthusiastic public involved. Please see the entry form for details.

About your competition host:
The Fraser Valley Woodturners Guild is a mature and dynamic club of enthusiastic turners living near Vancouver, British Columbia. We have a few long distance members from around the province and Washington State. Our club is dedicated to the development of both skill and enjoyment for our membership through internal mentor-ship; monthly demonstrations; guest-turner workshops and seminars. We also are strong on social events and support two worthy local charities through our annual Christmas party and auction and a summer barbecue (sound familiar?).
We have been very fortunate, of late, to have had visits from Fred Holder; Ernie Newman, Michael Hosaluk, Jason Marlow, Frank Sudol and Andre Martel and all have put on inspirational and knowledgeable sessions for our club.
About our major sponsor: (Cryderman Productions)
Our competition would not be possible if were not for the tremendous support of John Cryderman. John, the organizer of the BCWoodshow, provides generous space and assistance for the event and sponsors the major portion of the prize money - thank you John!
